DALTON, WHITFIELD COUNTY -

(WRCB) – Police in Dalton are looking for a man they say assaulted an elderly man and stole his pants.

Police say 44-year-old Ronnie Joe Long is wanted for robbery, burglary, simple assault and theft.

Investigators say early in the morning on March 18, Long knocked on a door at Whitfield Commons on Hawthorne Street.

Officers say when the elderly resident came to the door, Long forced his way in, knocking the man to the ground and took the man's pants. Officers speculate that Long assumed the man's wallet may be in the pants.  They say Long then fled on foot.

Long is also wanted for stealing a necklace from a woman with whom he was staying on School Street and then pawning the necklace.  The victim later found a pawn ticket at the house after Long had moved on and investigators were able to retrieve the necklace and return it to the victim.

Officers describe Long as a white male standing approximately 6'3" tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds.

Long is known to sometimes live in homeless camps in Dalton.

Anyone with information regarding Ronnie Joe Long's whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Chris Tucker at 706-278-9085, extension 165.
