(WRCB) - Officials in Cherokee County say the 2-year-old missing in the Ranger community has been found.

Search crews tell Channel 3 Eyewitness News Austin Frey was found, safe and sound, around 9:09 a.m. Friday morning.

Officials in Cherokee County say Austin wandered into the woods near his home Thursday afternoon, while chasing the family dog.

Austin was found behind a home, a few hundred yards away from where the dog was found yesterday.

"It was through the dedicated, selfless devotion to helping others we were able to find Austin alive today," Sheriff Keith Lovin told volunteers. "I want to thank the hundreds of folks who bonded together to bring about the best of all conclusions to a very serious situation."

Hundreds of volunteers from North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia aided in the 15 hour search for Austin.

Austin was taken to Children's Hospital at Erlanger to be checked out after spending a night in the elements.
