LIVELINES: PET CALLS
Veterinarians are reporting record numbers of flea and tick infestations, due to the extremely warm weather... and once it gets established in your home, it can be hard to get it under control.
Dr. Randy Hammon from Northgate Animal Hospital was our guest this morning. He discussed the following issues when it comes to keeping your home and pet safe.
FACTS ABOUT FLEAS AND TICKS
-one flea can produce 2,000 eggs in its lifetime
-fleas and ticks can reproduce year round in warm weather
-the majority of flea and tick control requires a focus on what is happening in the home
-products should be used in correct dosage
-flea and tick control requires treating all pets in the household every month
He also says it is important to treat your yard around the house and where you have mulch. Dr. Hammon also told us that ticks often harbor disease causing organisms.
