CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – A local mom is raising awareness after her son was killed in a drunk-driving accident.

Monday marked what would have been Kevin Yates' 26th birthday.

To remember his life, family and friends gathered around his grave, to raise awareness in his name.

"Kevin just touched so many people's lives," says Kevin's brother, Derek. "He had so much love for his friends and family."

Balloons were sold for $2.00.

The proceeds will go to the 1N3 Foundation, which Kevin's mother Tiki started to raise awareness of drinking and driving.

"He was very much a people person," says Kevin's mother, Tiki. "He loved people. He was more about you than himself. If you didn't have a shirt and he did, he'd give it to you before he wore one."

Derek recorded a cover of the song "Your Guardian Angel" in honor of Kevin. It is available on iTunes and a portion of the proceeds will go to the foundation.
