MURPHY, CHEROKEE COUNTY, NC. (WRCB) -- The District Attorney's Office in Cherokee County, North Carolina is seeking the death penalty for a murder suspect.

Attorney Jim Moore tells Channel 3, he asked the jury to consider the death penalty for Corey Luther Monday.

Luther was arrest by police in November for the murder of 42-year-old John Newton.

Police released a picture of Newton November 3, after he had been missing for days.

The victim's body was found near Valley River the next day, in an area called the Dynamite Hole.

Family members say Newton's gun collection and computer were taken from his home. The Sheriff's Office says blood was found outside the home.
