MARION COUNTY, TN. (WRCB) -- The search for a missing worker resumed Tuesday morning in Marion County after rescue crews combed the waters of the Tennessee River for a construction worker until midnight Monday.

Haletown Fire Chief Mikey Tudors tells Channel 3 a worker fell into the water while working on a barge at the Haletown Bridge.

Chief Tudors says the man came up once, gasping for air, but went back under and hasn't been seen since.

The worker had apparently tried to jump from one barge to another when he fell.

The Rescue Squad Chief says the worker fell into the river in an area that is around 70 feet deep and about 20 to 30 degrees.

Witnesses say he was wearing about 30 pounds of tools. A set of tools was found Monday night; however, they did not belong to worker.

A dive team is searching the area with assistance from Hamilton County and New Hope Volunteer Fire Department.

Marion County Sheriff Bo Burnett says his officers are also volunteering their off-time to search for the man.

The worker has not been identified.
