CHATTANOGA (WRCB) - Chattanooga's Westside residents are now urging the President to help.
The city is considering tearing down the housing complex and allowing an Atlanta firm to contract out housing to private firms.
Residents say they like their neighborhood, and were never asked for input on the development's future.
The Westside Community Association has now sent a petition to President Obama, asking for him to do several things.
Among them, restore funding to the HUD department, and deny any federal grants the city is seeking for the project.
They're asking the President to respond by the end of September.
It happened shortly after 8 p.m. on McCutcheon Road near Lee Highway.
