Dade Co. citizens gather to discuss crime issues

More than a dozen concerned Dade County citizens and elected officials gathered at the New Salem Community Center to talk about stopping crime.

The main issue: theft.

Citizens say for several months, people have been reporting things missing most taken from inside their homes.

Sheriff Patrick Cannon says his department is following leads, and one suspect was recently caught and sentenced for a rash of home burglaries.

He says, it's a community-wide issue.

Cannon says the meetings help educate and encourage citizens.He asks residents to report any suspicious activity.
