CALHOUN, GORDON COUNTY (WRCB) – A Calhoun
man has been charged in the death of his infant daughter over the weekend.
Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston says
a report of an infant in "physical distress" on Beason Road came in around 2:00
p.m. Saturday.
Sheriff Ralston says EMS responders
worked tirelessly to save the 3-month-old while en route to a local hospital, where she
was ultimately pronounced dead.
Deputies and a GBI agent were called in
after hospital staff became suspicious of abuse.
The Sheriff says the physical injuries were consistent with abuse,
which led to the arrest of the child's father, 20-year-old Billy Aaron Jones.
"This was a horrible tragedy in
which an innocent life was lost," Sheriff Ralston says. "Our thoughts and
prayers are with the family."
Jones is charged with felony murder and cruelty
to children.
He is being held in the county jail
pending judicial proceedings.
