CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) - A Clarksville police officer is in stable condition after he was shot during a standoff that followed a fatal shooting Thursday.

The suspected gunman, Fort Campbell-based soldier Benjamin Schweitzer, 26, surrendered himself to police just before 2:30 p.m.

The officer was shot in the arm at a house on Quick Silver Court around 10:45 a.m., said police spokesman Jim Knoll.

It's unclear what started the incident, but police initially received a call that a person was shot and was bleeding on the front porch of a nearby home. That person, identified as Sgt. Frederick Nicholas Moses, who is also based at Ft. Campbell, later died. TBI officials have confirmed Moses and Schweitzer were roommates.
