CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- A hot start to the 2012 season has Chattanooga State softball wearing a bulls eye as it begins play in the Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association (TJCAA) this week.

The Lady Tigers are ranked No. 1 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll after going 31-3 in the season's first month.

Chattanooga State was ranked No. 11 in the NJCAA's preseason poll, but already owns wins over No. 2 and defending national champ Yavapai College, No. 3 Tallahasse Community College and No. 9 Gulf Coast Community College.

The Lady Tigers' lost once each to Gulf Coast, Tallahassee and Northwest Florida, but have already avenged each of those losses.

Ace Ashely Czechner also earned an NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week honor earlier this season for her performance during the week of February 26.

Chattanooga State opens TJCAA play next weekend at Southwest College in Memphis.
