Lady Mocs' upset bid falls short at No. 21 Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UTC/WRCB) -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team's upset bid fell just short in a 1-0 loss at No. 21/22 Florida State on Tuesday night at JoAnne Graf Field.
The Lady Mocs had the tying run at second and go-ahead run at first with one out in the seventh, but Nicole Osterman lined into a double-play to end the game.
True freshman pitcher Taylor Deason was the tough-luck loser, dropping to 9-4 on the year despite giving up just one run on seven hits while striking out five in six strong innings.
Maddie O'Brien's solo home run in the second proved to be the day's only score. The Seminoles threatened with a pair of runners in the first and had the bases loaded in the fifth, but UTC's defense held them scoreless.
Monica Perry wen the distance in the circle for Florida State to improve to 8-2 on the year. She gave up just five hits and struck out seven in the shutout.
The Lady Mocs return to action on Wednesday with a doubleheader at No. 4 Florida beginning at 5 p.m. ET in Gainesville.
