HAMILTON COUNTY, TN. (WRCB) -- Hamilton County emergency crews found themselves on the scene of a fiery helicopter crash in Middle Valley Tuesday.
Hamilton EMS Spokeswoman Amy Maxwell says it happened in a field off Barker Road around 6:49 p.m.
Maxwell says the Experimental Safari Helicopter lost power during take-off and the pilot, Steve Michael was unable to steer the chopper away from a wooded area.
It caught fire after landing on its side around a nearby creek.
Maxwell says Michael and the passenger, 91-year-old Ivan Vernon, walked away from the crash.
Vernon, who owns the property where the crash happened, was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Maxwell says the FAA will begin investigating the incident Wednesday.
The choppers is a loss, estimated at $100,000.
