CHATTANOOGA (UTC/WRCB) - Senior designated player and pitcher Michelle Fuzzard was recognized as the Southern Conference's Softball Player of the Month for February on Tuesday.
The fifth-year senior, who graduated in August 2011 with a degree in criminal justice, hit .563 with a 1.031 slugging percentage in the Lady Mocs' first 13 games.
Fuzzard already has seven multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games. Her 17 RBI this season have already made her the all-time career leader in that category at Chattanooga with 178 over the past five years.
The Huntington Beach, Calif., native hit three home runs and six doubles in February, and has walked eleven times (three intentional) and been hit by a pitch twice.
At the month's end, she paced the Southern Conference in average (.563), slugging (1.031), on-base (.660), RBI (17), total bases (33), walks (11) and doubles (6).
This is the third time Fuzzard has been named player of the month. She won it twice during the 2011 season.
The Lady Mocs are currently on their spring break trip to the Sunshine State. UTC plays No. 21/22 Florida State on March 13 at 5 p.m., before heading to Gainesville, Fla., the next day for a doubleheader at No. 4 Florida beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
