Solar storm moving toward Earth

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- The energy from a solar storm is making its way toward Earth.

Scientists say a pair of solar flares, or a big cloud of charged particles flung from the Sun, caused Tuesday night's storm.

That energy is now heading toward Earth at about 4-million miles per hour, and is expected to reach our planet early Thursday morning.

In the past, solar flares and storms have affected power grids, communication devices and GPS systems.
