ATHEN, MCMINN COUNTY (WRCB) -- McMinn County Schools will soon have new leadership.

In a vote Monday night, members of the board selected Mickey Blevins as its new director of schools.

Blevins, who is currently the supervisor of elementary schools, will replace Director David Pierce.

Pierce will retire, following the school year.

He became the director of schools in 2008 after serving as assistant director and briefly as interim director in 2004 for Dr. John Forgety, who was serving in Iraq.

School officials say Blevins will assume his new role July 1.
