UPDATE: Local shelters opening for storm victims

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- As storms and tornadoes continue to sweep across East Tennessee several locations are opening storm shelters to assist those in need.

Hamilton County: The Red Cross has opened at shelter at Bayside Baptist at 6100 Highway 58 in Harrison.

Salvation Army has set up stations for those who need food and water.  (Please contact them for specifics.)

Bradley County:  Red Cross Shelter opening at St. Therese Catholic Church, 900 Clingan Ridge Dr. NW, Cleveland, TN 37312.

Dade County: The American Legion Post 106 in Trenton has opened a shelter.

Cumberland County:  Case work and bulk distribution of items has been completed and resources are being redeployed to support other communities.

Monroe County: The Red Cross has opened a shelter at Tellico Plains Junior High School.

McMinn County:  4 or 5 homes destroyed.  Red Cross providing assistance.

All Red Cross disaster volunteers in East Tennessee are on alert and are ready to deploy when needed.

Those needing emergency assistance due to the storms can call their local Red Cross chapter.  All assistance is provided free of charge.  The Red Cross is not government funded and relies on the generosity of the American people to help those when they need it the most.
