Deal calls for more college graduates in Georgia

Posted: Updated:

(AP) - Georgia Governor Nathan Deal is calling for the state to produce another 250,000 college graduates by 2020.

Deal on Tuesday charged the presidents of the state's colleges and universities, along with members of the business community, to develop plans to increase the number of graduates in the state. Georgia is 1 of 30 states taking part in the Complete College America Alliance.

The state announced in August that it received $1 million for transforming remedial education in the state as part of an effort to help more students succeed in college.

Deal said Tuesday more college graduates are the key to improving the state's struggling economy.
