CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team claimed their first two home wins of the season with a 7-0 victory over Valparaiso and a 5-3 win against Niagara to open up the annual Frost Classic Inspired by Memorial on Friday afternoon at Frost Stadium.
Sophomore second baseman Sara Poteat registered two more multi-hit games, bringing her season total to eight, while extending her hitting streak to 10 games.
Senior designated player and pitcher Michelle Fuzzard pitched a four-hit complete game shutout in the opener. The reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week notched four strikeouts without a walk in beating the Crusaders.
The Lady Mocs took an early 6-0 lead with a three-run home run from senior catcher Vivian Morimoto and a two-run shot by freshman outfielder Cheyenne Willis. The first-inning blast was the first collegiate round tripper of Willis' career.
Nicole Osterman also added an RBI-single in a three-run first inning.
Taylor Deason followed Fuzzard with another strong performance in the circle in game two against Niagara. The true freshman registered a season-best nine strikeouts and yielded just three runs en route to her third complete game.
Junior first baseman Kasey Tydingco drove in a team-high three RBI on her third home run of the season against the Purple Eagles. Fuzzard made her presence felt at the plate as well, registering multi-hit games in each contest.
Chattanooga returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader on Saturday against East Tennessee State and Purdue beginning at 1:15 p.m. at Frost Stadium.
