Community prays for city's troubled youth

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Gang violence has plagued Chattanooga headlines for 20 years.

Since the beginning of the new year, police have responded to 12 shootings, 4 of them deadly. But Thursday night prayers were lifted up for the community.

Dozens gathered at Calvary Chapel in hopes of spreading encouragement and hope.

Many searching for answers and needing guidance in a time when violence invades their neighborhoods.

Tuesday night city leaders voted to fund a $75,000 Gang Assessment to pinpoint ways to solve the issues.

Gang task force member Fredrick Houser says there's more to it.

He says rising above the fear is an important key in outreach.

The gang study is expected to be complete by August.
