Warm spring day today, threat of thunderstorms tonight

Posted: Updated:

(WRCB) - We are in for a nice spring day Thursday.  It will feel great, but there are some negatives that go along with it.

First, pollen counts are incredibly high for this time of year.  Anything above a count of 120 is considered very high.  As of Thursday morning, the count was 1,314.  It is primarily tree pollen.

The second result of the warm nice weather is a fairly unstable environment that will be ripe for thunderstorms with a lifting mechanism like an approaching front.  We will see that front moving in Thursday night, and as it does we will have another slight risk of severe thunderstorms.

The primary threats will come from potential straight line winds and small hail.  The Storm Prediction Center puts the risk of tornadoes for this area at only 5% again overnight.

The timing of this system will range from 8:00 p.m. Thursday to 3:00 a.m. Friday.

By the time you wake up Friday morning, skies will be clearing and cooler air moving in.  Highs Friday will be near 60 (at least cooler than 73).  The temperature will continue to drop into the low-30s Saturday morning and warming only into the low-50s Saturday afternoon.
