FIRST ON 3: Westin hotel coming to Chattanooga

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) --  An international hotel chain will soon call downtown's "Gold Building" home.

According to Starwood Hotels and Resorts web site, the company plans to open The Westin Chattanooga in just a over a year.

The site lists the address as 801 Pine Street, which was home to Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The insurance company began moving to its new location on Cameron Hill Circle in late January 2009, placing the 180-thousand square foot landmark on the market.

In December 2010, brothers Byron and Ken DeFoor paid $6 million dollars for the building, which was well off the $10 million asking price.

So far, there's no word on the number of jobs that will be created in the Scenic City.

Starwood's site says the new hotel will open May 1, 2013, following the grand opening of Four Point by Sheraton Chattanooga at Hamilton Place in March.
