Dade County girls hold off Pepperell for state tourney spot
DALTON, Ga. (WRCB) -- Ansley Chilton scored 16 points to help Dade County hold off upset-minded Pepperell in a 50-40 win in the Region 7-AA quarterfinals at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center on Thursday night.

The Lady Wolverines locked up a spot in the upcoming Class AA state tournament with the win, and advanced to the 7-AA semifinals against No. 1-ranked Model on Friday night.

Erika Woodfin added 10 points for the Lady Wolverines.

Kiara Parks led all scorers with 23 points, including all 10 of Pepperell's points in the third quarter. She had the Lady Dragons within six points with two minutes to play, but Dade County hit its final four free throws to seal the win.

The Lady Wolverines were 12-of-15 from the charity stripe in the game.

North Murray boys clinch first-ever state tournament appearance
DALTON, Ga. (WRCB) -- After falling one win shy of a state tournament bid a year ago, the North Murray boys refused to let history repeat itself on Thursday night.

Zach Vess led three Mountaineers in double figures with 20 points to fuel a 59-44 win over Armuchee in the Region 7-AA quarterfinals that clinched the program's first-ever trip to the AA state tournament.

Brady Swilling added 15 points and Tyler Duckett finished with 14 for North Murray, who advances to face Coosa in Friday night's semifinals.

The Indians pulled within 32-29 just two minutes into the second half, but the Mountaineers regrouped to outscore them 27-15 the rest of the way.
