UPDATE: Rick Santorum to speak at Chattanooga Tea Party event

CHATTANOOGA -

(WRCB) – Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum will make a stop in Chattanooga.

According to the Chattanooga Tea Party, Santorum will headline the Liberty Forum on February 25.

The organization says Santorum is one of many candidates invited to attend, and the first accept.  Santorum will join Congressman Chuck Fleischmann and Third District challengers Weston Wamp and Dr. Jean Howard Hill along with many other state and local political figures.  "The goal is to certainly be an educational forum for people to learn more about candidates, local, state and national," said Chattanooga Tea Party President mark West.  "So, the fact that he's coming is great, but we've got 21 other local, state and national candidates and elected officials that are coming to this event, too.  And those are really the men and women who serve our community everyday and who we've gotten to know and getting to know and who really impact our lives more than any President probably will."

While the local group stops short of endorsing Santorum in the primary, West admits the former Pennsylvania Senator definitely speaks to their values.  "One of his plans says he will cut five trillion dollars out of the budget over the next five years," said West.  "Well, that certainly resonates with Tea Party individuals because we're certainly very fiscally conservative."

The Chattanooga Tea Party is in the process of changing venues to accommodate the increased number of attendees expected with the addition of the surging Presidential candidate to the lineup.
