Vols add linebacker Bynum to 2012 recruiting class

Posted: Updated:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WRCB) -- The University of Tennessee lost two long-time linebacker commits late in the recruiting game before National Signing Day two weeks ago, but they hope to make up for it with a late addition.

Linebacker Kenneth Bynum of Jacksonville, Fla., reportedly signed with the Vols on Wednesday, two weeks after National Signing Day. Deran Wiley, Bynum's coach at Raines High School, confirmed the senior's decision to the Florida Times-Union.

The 6-foot-1, 221-pounder committed to Cincinnati in October, but Tennessee made a late push for his services after the defection of long-time Vol linebacker pledges Dalton Santos (Texas) and Otha Peters (Arkansas).

Our media partners at the Chattanooga Times Free Press report Bynum received an offer from UT two days before National Signing Day, and delayed his decision to take a visit to the Knoxville campus.

Bynum was rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN, and had offers from Stanford, North Carolina, North Carolina State and West Virginia, among others.

He is the 22nd signee in head coach Derek Dooley's 2012 recruiting class.
