
HERMITAGE, Tenn. (TSSAA) -- Longtime Marion County high school official Leon Rash is one of eight members of the TSSAA Hall of Fame Class of 2012.
The group will be inducted at the annual luncheon at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Murfreesboro on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
Rash served as a TSSAA basketball official for more than 40 years, working numerous postseason games on the district and regional levels, as well as three TSSAA State tournaments. The Jasper native also served as a Supervisor and Assigning Officer for the Southeast Tennessee Basketball Officials Association and was a TSSAA Officials' Camp Director.
Rash helped organize the baseball umpire association in Sequatchie Valley in the mid 1970s, and has received an A. F. Bridges Official of the Year Award twice for his teaching and promotion of citizenship and sportsmanship in high school athletics.
Two administrators, two coaches, one official, and two contributors will join Rash in the most recent class of honorees. The TSSAA has inducted a group annually since 1982.
Those joining Rash in being honored in Murfeesboro are: James Armstrong, administrator from Brentwood; Richard "Dick" Henley, administrator from Seymour; Charles Mitchell, coach from Byrdstown; Jerry Pearson, coach from Springfield; Butch Campbell, official from Murfreesboro; and Sam and Nelda Kerr, contributors from Cumberland City.
The Hall of Fame luncheon will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21. The luncheon is to not only honor the new inductees and their families, but to honor all past inductees into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 5.
