East Ridge hires parks and recreations director
EAST RIDGE, HAMILTON COUNTY (WRCB) – Beginning Wednesday, the City of East Ridge will have a Director of Parks and Recreation.
City Manager Tim Gobble says Marvin "Stump" Martin has been selected to fill the newly created position.
On January 24, the East Ridge City Council passed all three proposals on the table to help improve Camp Jordan, after spending upwards of $800,000, but only collecting about $45,000 from player fees and $65,000 in winter soccer rentals.
East Ridge's mayor was the only vote against the measures, saying more information was needed at the time, as well as collaboration with the athletic leagues.
Gobble says Martin is no stranger to the Tennessee Valley. Martin has served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for Rossville since 2008.
For 20 years, Martin was a sports writer for the Chattanooga Times Free Press and hosted several sports talk shows.
"Stump Martin has a wealth of experience and involvement in local sports leagues and events," Gobble says. "We are proud to have him join the City of East Ridge to work with all volunteers, parents, coaches and players to progress the City's athletic programs and facilities forward and to new heights."
Gobble says Martin will assist the City of Rossville during its transition to a new director.
