Melissa McClureMURPHY, CHEROKEE COUNTY (WRCB) -- Four suspects are behind bars in Cherokee
County after an investigation alleges doctor shopping in four states.
Lieutenant R. L. Williams tells Channel 3, 43-year-old Melissa McClure,
40-year-old David Smith, 26-year-old Courtney Gayson and 28-year-old Kristian
Devecki each face multiple charges of doctor shopping.
Williams says a two-week investigation by the Sheriff's Office revealed the suspects were not only
illegally obtaining prescription pain-killers locally, but from doctors in
Tennessee, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
He says the suspects were using money from Medicare and Medicaid to pay for the
pills.
All four have court dates later this month.
