CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Another one of the Chattanooga Zoo's most popular residents, Butch the Red Panda, has passed away from what appears to be old age.
The 16 year old had almost doubled the average life expectancy of the breed, which zoo officials say generally live between 8 to 10 years.
In a statement, the zoo noted that the extended life of this particular animal points to the excellent care given to
him by his keepers.
Results from a preliminary necropsy should be available by Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.
This is second red panda that has passed away in the past five weeks.
Bella, who was 11 year sold and suffered for a skin infection, died in early January.
