CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Channel 3 is learning more about a deadly crash on Hixson Pike over the weekend.
The accident happened when police say a Ford pickup, driven by 68-year-old Warren Elliott was exiting off Highway 153. When Elliott left the ramp, he crossed into oncoming traffic on Hixson Pike and hit 54-year-old Mark Phillips' Chevy Impala head-on. Phillips was pronounced dead on the scene.
Elliott was transported to Erlanger Medical Center and is listed in serious condition.
Traffic investigators closed the northbound lanes of Hixson Pike and the ramp to Highway 153 for several hours Saturday evening to reconstruct the scene.
Police spokesman Nathan Hartwig said that it is unknown at this time why Elliott failed to negotiate the curve, but the investigation is continuing.
Charges may be filed pending the outcome of the crash investigation and reconstruction, Hartwig added.
