CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Family members of Jesse Mathews, the man police say gunned down Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, will be in court Monday for sentencing.

Friday, Eyewitness News took a look at pre-sentence reports filed this week.

In documents, obtained by Channel 3, attorneys say Ray Mathews, Jesse's father, was unaware of plans to rob the Brainerd pawn shop where Chapin was killed.

Attorneys also claim Jesse's sister, Rachel, and mother, Kathleen, never had possession of the guns used in the crime.

On April 7, all three were arrested along with Rachel's boyfriend, James Poteet. Federal investigators say they helped supply the weapons and were essential in planning the robbery.
Jesse's parents and sister are also charged with helping him escape from a half-way house in Colorado two months before Sergeant Chapin's death April 2.

Both of Jesse's parents formally pleaded guilty in federal court September 21, following his sister and Poteet August 10.

Jesse Mathews will go to trial in January 2013.

Until then, he will be held in the Hamilton County jail.
