Bond set at $30,000 for Dalton State College professor

Posted: Updated:

WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA (Times Free Press) -- Bond was set at $30,000 today for a Dalton State College professor who is facing charges of child molestation, sodomy and rape involving an 8-year-old female and two other young girls whose families he befriended at church.

Whitfield County Superior Court Chief Judge William T. Boyett set the bond at a hearing this morning at which Monte Salyer represented himself, court officials said.

Bail bonding businesses typically charge between 10 and 12 percent of the total bond amount, so Salyer could get out of jail for between $3,000 and $3,600, according to Ashley Sparks, an administrative assistant in the Whitfield County Public Defender's Office.

Salyer still was in custody this afternoon, but somebody had inquired about the possibility of getting him out, according to Whitfield County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Tanya Hill.
