NASHVILLE, TN (WRCB) --  Jackpot fever just rose a notch higher with the announcement that the estimated jackpot for Saturday's Powerball drawing has risen from $310 million to a gargantuan $325 million.

The increase can be attributed to brisk sales across the country and the launch of game changes designed to create Bigger jackpots, Better odds and More millionaires.

"Just as we anticipated, the redesigned Powerball game is quickly providing the huge jackpots that create excitement throughout the state and beyond," said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. "Players are excited, sales are on the rise, and it's all for a great cause."

Saturday's drawing features the largest Powerball jackpot since August 2007, when the top prize reached $314 million. The jackpot is the third largest in the game's history.

Powerball is a popular drawing-style lottery game sold in 44 jurisdictions across the United States. Since the game's launch in Tennessee in April 2004, Powerball players in the state have won more than $298.1 million in prizes (as of 1/31/2012).

In this past fiscal year, the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation set new records, announcing an all-time high transfer of $293.5 million to education programs in the state, an increase of $4.6 million over the previous record set last year.  The Lottery also reported a record-breaking $1.19 billion in total sales, which was a 4.2 percent increase over the previous year.
