Fight continues for Aetna Mountain
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The fight continues to keep using Cummings Cove on Aetna Mountain open for off-roading.
Last month the TWRA posted signs banning off-road vehicles citing erosion problems.
Thursday night, more than 100 people gathered to talk with a TWRA representative, many questioning the timing of the decision.
John Mayer, with TWRA, came down from Nashville to answer questions.
He says the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation found silt erosion coming off the mountain. But Christie Perkins, with 'We Rock' says it goes beyond that.
Channel 3 obtained what is believed to be plans, redrawing the MDA boundary, so a road can be paved for the Black Creek Estates development.
Mayer acknowledged in the meeting the developer proposed the land swap to TWRA and they're holding a closed door meeting on February 21st.
Mayer says the off-road community can raise money and buy the land if they want.
Perkins turned over a petition containing more than 8,000 signatures opposing the closure.
