Jasper man dies trying to save girlfriend

BRIDGEPORT, AL -

(WRCB) – A Jasper, Tennessee man died while trying to save his girlfriend, after her car crashed into the Tennessee River.

Bridgeport, Alabama, Police say the woman's car crashed into the water Tuesday.

She was able to get out of the car and swim to the bank.

But her boyfriend, 26-year-old Christopher Heaton, didn't know she had gotten out.

When he arrived on the scene, he dove into the water to find her.

Police say rescue crews found his body near the Bridgeport Ferry.

He apparently drowned.
