Tide, Dawgs and Vols sending players to NFL Combine

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (WRCB) - Reigning BCS national champion Alabama will be well represented in Indianapolis to work out for NFL scouts at the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of the month.

The Crimson Tide led all schools with nine players invited to the annual event, which will run Feb. 22-28 at Lucas Oil Stadium. The official list of 300 invitees was released by the NFL on Tuesday.

Georgia wasn't far behind with eight players receiving invites, while Tennessee will have a pair of players attending. Players from SEC schools, including new additions Missouri and Texas A&M, accounted for 62 of the invitees.

Alabama players invited to the combine are: defensive backs Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick and Quan Menzie, defensive lineman Josh Chapman, wide receivers Marquis Maze and Darius Hanks, running back Trent Richardson and linebackers Dont'a Hightower and Courtney Upshaw.

Richardson, Hightower and Kirkpatrick are all underclassmen.

Georgia players invited included: offensive linemen Cordy Glenn, Justin Anderson and Ben Jones, defensive lineman DeAngelo Tyson, defensive back Brandon Boykin, tight end Orson Charles, punter Drew Butler and placekicker Blair Walsh.

Charles is the Bulldogs' lone underclassmen to declare early for the draft. Boykin will likely miss the combine after breaking his leg in the Senior Bowl two weeks ago.

Defensive lineman Malik Jackson and running back Tauren Poole will represent Tennessee.

Chattnaooga quarterback B.J. Coleman is one of three former Vols who will work out for scouts in Indy. McNeese State defensive back Janzen Jackson and Louisiana Tech running back Lennon Creer were also invited.
