LaFayette tops Dalton to share 7A-3A top spot
LAFAYETTE, Ga. (WRCB) -- Jordan Teems scored 18 points and LaFayette bounced back from its first sub-region loss by beating Dalton 65-57 on Friday night.
The Ramblers, who suffered their first sub-region loss at Ridgeland on Tuesday, pulled into a first-place tie with the previously unblemished Catamounts (13-6, 4-1) atop the 7A-3A standings.
Devarus Porter scored seven quick points to push the Ramblers (14-3, 4-1) out to a double-digit first quarter lead. Teems and Lance Estus picked up the slack in the second quarter to carry that advantage into the intermission.
Tristen Harrell scored 10 of his team-high 17 points in the second-half to pull Dalton within single digits, but the Catamounts couldn't complete the rally.
Ringgold routs rival Ridgeland, 70-50
ROSSVILLE, Ga. (WRCB) -- Friday was supposed to be a special night at Ridgeland High School.
Too bad rival Ringgold had to come in and spoil the party.
The visiting Tigers burst out to a 22-point first-half lead and never looked back in a 70-50 drubbing of the Panthers. The win pulls Ringgold (3-2 in sub-region) into a second-place tie with Ridgeland in the 7A-3A standings, one game behind LaFayette and Dalton.
Spirits were high before tip-off as Ridgeland honored the 1986 Rossville High girls basketball team, which is the last squad from the Northwest Georgia area to win a state championship.
From there it was all Ringgold.
After the Panthers mustered just six first-quarter points, Kile Sholl and Nick Scott combined for 15 in the Tigers' 23-point second quarter while Ringgold stormed out to a 37-15 lead. Ridgeland cut the deficit to 18 at the break, but were unable to make up the ground in the second half.
Scott led Ringgold with 29 points. Gannon Harris was tops for Ridgeland (8-10, 3-2) with 19.
