CHATTANOOGA (SOCON/WRCB) -- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga forward Whitney Hood was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
It's the first time this season a Chattanooga player has claimed the award, and the fourth career weekly honor for Hood.
The 6-foot-2 senior has been the leading scorer in each of the Lady Mocs' last four games, including a pair of 20-point performances last week that helped UTC (13-4, 7-0) remain unbeaten in conference play.
Hood hit 10-of-12 free throws and scored a season-high 24 points in a 74-67 win over Wofford on Friday, and followed it with her second double-double of the season (21 points, 11 rebounds) in an 18-point rout of Furman on Sunday.
The Meridian, Miss., native leads the SoCon and ranks 35th in the nation in field goal percentage (52.8%). Hood also ranks sixth in the league in scoring (13.6 points per game) and tenth in rebounding (6.5 rebounds per game).
The SoCon-leading Lady Mocs continue a four-game stretch against teams sitting second through fifth in the standings when they host fourth-place Samford on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. Road trips to third-place Appalachian State and second-place Davidson will follow.
