Evans' big night lifts Brainerd past Howard
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) --
Jabari Evans scored 23 of his game-high 38 points in the fourth quarter and Brainerd avenged a 10-point December loss to its arch rival with an 81-73 win over Howard at High-Jackson Gym on Friday night.

Evans hit 14-of-15 free throw attempts in the final period to help the Panthers (13-5) seal the win. He finished 18-of-20 from the charity stripe in the game.

The Panthers led by five entering after three quarters and pushed the lead to double figures early in the fourth.

The Hustlin' Tigers went inside to battle back. Center Brandon Walters scored 14 of his team-high 20 points after the intermission to fuel a furious rally that pulled Howard within 60-58 on Shailique Cameron's three-point play with about four minutes left.

Evans took over from there. After missing his first free throw of the final quarter, the Brainerd star hit 14 in a row to close the game.

Dade County (girls) 45, Calhoun 39
TRENTON, Ga. (WRCB) --
Ansley Chilton scored 16 points to lead four Dade County players in double figures and the Lady Wolverines remained undefeated with a 45-39 win over visiting Calhoun on Friday night.

Lindsey Tinker, Holly Gross and Erika Woodfin all added 10 points apiece for Dade County, who improved to 13-0 overall and 4-0 in sub-region play. Calhoun, who is the defending region champ, dropped to 7-2 overall.

The Lady Wolverines jumped out to an early 13-2 lead before going cold. Calhoun answered with a 13-0 run to move in front while Dade County went scoreless for more than nine minutes.

Chilton's layup with just over two minutes to go in the second quarter was the Lady Wolverines' lone field goal of the period, but they managed to get to the free throw line to take a 20-15 lead into the half. Chilton scored 10 of her 16 points before the break.

Gross, Tinker and Woodfin picked up the slack in the second half, scoring 26 of their combined 30 points in the final two periods.
