HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB)- The holiday travel rush is officially underway! AAA estimates nearly 92 million people will hit the road, hop on a train or catch a plane to visit family and friends. That is a nearly one and a half percent increase over last year.

We stopped by the Tennessee rest area on I-75 North to check in with drivers. The rest stop had its fair share of travelers stopping to take a break from their journey.

Many we talked with say despite it being Christmas Eve Eve, the roads really are not that bad.

"They're pretty good," says Reginald Zubber. "Not congested or anything. Pretty smooth sailing."

"It's not as busy as it seems like it. And I expected it being Friday, two days before Christmas everybody would be on the road but it's not that bad," says Bobby Asgari.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is once again participating in the national holiday enforcement campaign, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

Be sure to buckle up, do not drink and drive and watch your speed.

The holiday travel season runs through January 2nd.
