Tyner holds off Ooltewah to stay unbeaten
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) --
In a game that never saw a lead larger than five points, Tyner picked the perfect time to make its only run.

A 10-2 surge to end the game was enough to lift Tyner to a 56-51 win over Ooltewah in the opening round of the Times Free Press Best of Preps Tournament on Wednesday night at CSAS.

Trey Suttles scored 19 points to lead the Rams, who remained undefeated at 9-0. Travis Murphy was the only other Ram in double figures, finishing with 11.

Suttles scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half, including four in the key closing stretch. His tip-in with four minutes to go gave the Rams a 50-49 lead they would not relinquish.

Down 52-49, Mikhail Creech's steal and slam pulled the Owls within one with 1:14 to play, but another Suttles bucket and a missed 3-pointer by Antonio Jackson with 14 seconds to play helped the Rams seal the win.

Andre Moton led Ooltewah (7-2) with 18 points. Jervon Johnson added 10, but was limited by foul trouble in the first half.

James leads McCallie past Cleveland
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) --
Cordell James scored 21 points as McCallie ran away early then had to hold off Cleveland late for a 67-58 win in the opening round of the Times Free Press Best of Preps Tournament on Wednesday night at CSAS.

James was one of four players in double figures for McCallie, which remained unbeaten at 7-0. C.J. Reese finished with 16 points, while Terrance O'Donahue added 13 and Jamal Calvin chipped in 11.

The Blue Tornado used a 14-0 run to open a double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter, then ripped off a 9-0 stretch in the third quarter after Cleveland had cut the lead to six.

The Blue Raiders rallied again to pull within 56-54 with just under two minutes to play, but McCallie answered with its final surge of the night, an 11-2 run to close the game.

D.J. Bowles and C.J. Bryant each scored 12 points to lead Cleveland (8-3), while Jarod Rhodes added 11.
