Vols dumped by two commits on JUCO signing day

Posted: Updated:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WRCB) -- The University of Tennessee football team received a signed letter of intent from former Alabama defensive lineman Darrington Sentimore on Wednesday.

But who the Vols lost during Wednesday's junior college national signing day may have been bigger than who they added.

Defensive lineman Damien Jacobs and defensive back Otis Jacobs both backed out of previous commitments to Tennessee and signed elsewhere.

Damien Jacobs, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle from East Mississippi Community College, inked with rival Florida on Wednesday morning after committing to UT in late July.

Otis Jacobs, a 6-foot-1, 187-pound cornerback from Gulf Coast Community College (Miss.), decided to sign with Texas A&M despite decommitting from the Aggies last week to give his verbal commitment to Tennessee.

In need of depth at the defensive tackle position, the Vols are still happy to have Sentimore in the fold. The 6-foot-3, 273-pounder recorded 39 tackles, including five for a loss, and seven sacks this past season at Gulf Coast Community College.

Sentimore was a four-star recruit when he signed with Alabama as a Destrahan High (La.) senior in 2009. He redshirted his first season in Tuscaloosa, but recorded nine tackles and a forced fumble while playing in eleven games for the Crimson Tide in 2010

He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
