LAFAYETTE, WALKER COUNTY (WRCB) --  A North Georgia community is in shock over the death of an instructor.

Dustin Scott was a longtime teacher at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. Channel 3 has learned he was killed in motorcycle accident near his home.

Details of the accident are still limited, but we do know Scott lost control of his motorcycle just yards from his driveway after 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

"Very nice man," says neighbor, Thom Tinker.  "The one or two times I talked with him he was a super pleasant guy."

Tinker, like the rest of those who knew Dustin Scott, is in shock Sunday at news of the sudden accident that took his life.

"I'm really sorry it happened," Tinker says.  "As a fellow motorcyclist it always breaks my heart to hear of accidents like this."

Tinker wasn't home Saturday when witnesses say, Scott lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Warren Road.

"We're still in shock at the news," says GNTC Provost Jeff King.

Scott was a longtime industrial systems instructor at the college.

"He was highly thought of by students and faculty," King says.

Tire tracks and scuff marks on Warren Road are the only indications of the accident Sunday morning.

The scene extends over 250 feet from Scott's neighbor's driveway to the top of the hill near his home.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

"He had a great passion for what he did," says King.  "He wanted to have the best lab, the best program and students responded to that enthusiasm."

Scott and his wife had recently moved to Warren Road. Scott taught at NGTC'S Walker County Campus and was a student before becoming a teacher. King says his death is a tremendous loss to the college.

"At this time of year it's something that's very hard to understand," King says.  "It's just a very sad occasion."

Neighbors say Warren Road is very quiet and most of the traffic is residential.

Funeral arrangements will by held at Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton, Ga.

Visitation for family and friends is Tusday from 2pm - 8pm.

The funeral is Wednesday starting at 1pm.
