Littlefield suing Election Commission to stop recall election

CHATTANOOGA -

(Times Free Press) - Attorneys for Mayor Ron Littlefield filed a second lawsuit this morning in Circuit Court to stop any potential recall election from occurring.

Hal North, Littlefield's attorney, said he is asking for a temporary injunction hearing before Jan. 6, the pickup date for qualifying petitions for any potential mayoral candidates.

North filed the suit against the Hamilton County Election Commission. The commission certified recall petitions last month and set a recall election date for August 2012. The commission's action took place a month after the Tennessee Court of Appeals ruled a Circuit Court judge's ruling was wrong by not allowing the commission a chance to certify the recall petitions.
