Changes made to schools' cell phone policy

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Hamilton County School Board members are making minor adjustments to the school district's cell phone confiscation policy.

In September, we aired complaints from parents and students that the current policy was too strict.

Board Chair Mike Evatt agreed, and named a committee to look into the complaints.

Most principals favored keeping the policy intact, saying as the school year goes on, most students learn to turn off their phones in class.

A first offense will likely be reduced from 10 school days, to 10 calendar days.

Opponents had argued for other forms of punishment.
