LIVELINES: PET CARE ISSUES
Winter conditions can present deadly dangers to dogs and cats, one in particular pet owners should be aware of is antifreeze poisoning.
Veterinarian, Doctor Randy Hammon, was our guest. He said the sweet taste is appealing to animals.
He also discussed the following issues when it comes to this topic.
-What is Antifreeze (a chemical when added to water, reduces the freezing point.)
-How poisonous is Antifreeze (A single teaspoon can be fatal to a 10lb cat and 1-2 tablespoons can kill a 10 lb dog)
-What are signs of poisoning (animals that have injested antifreeze will appear to be drunk)
-How can we treat Antifreeze poisoning (a blood test can confirm antifreeze toxicity)
-How do we prevent Antifreeze poisoning (keep automotive supplies sealed and out of reach of pets)
