Summerville, Chattooga County (WRCB)-- A death investigation is underway by the Chattooga County Sheriff's office after a woman's burned body was found last week.
Sheriff John Everett tells Channel 3, 51-year-old Jennifer Cox's charred body was found by a hunter next to a burned vehicle.
The hunter made the discovery Friday on Little Sand Mountain Road in Summerville.
Sheriff Everett says, "A person in the area hunting heard a horn blowing and seen smoke. He called 911 and the fire truck came."
Most of the flames were out and just smoke could be seen in the area.
The sheriff's office called the G.B.I. once they found Cox's body. People around town believe she was single and worked in a local mill there.
The sheriff says her death is not only suspicious but the area is nothing but woods and winding curves.
That means clues could be scattered over a large area and tracking down witnesses won't be easy.
"We are exploring all avenues, all clues, any evidence we have," Everett says. "We are still interviewing people that were on the road that day."
The sheriff says foul play has not been ruled out.
The woman's body has been sent to the G.B.I. Crime lab in Atlanta for autopsy.
