LA QUINTA, Calif. (AP) - Former Baylor School star is in the top five through the first two days of the six-round PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament.

English sits in a tie for second with Matt Jones at a 36-hole total of 9-under par. The duo is chasing Will Claxton, who shot a 2-under 70 on Thursday to get to 10-under par overall.

The top 25 in the six-round event at PGA West will earn 2012 PGA Tour cards.

Claxton had a 10-under total.

Claxton and Jones played the TPC Stadium Course, while English was at the Nicklaus Tournament Course. English made his professional debut earlier this year on the Nationwide Tour, and is going through Q School for the first time.

Billy Hurley III was 8 under after a 71 on the Nicklaus course.

David Duval was tied for 81st at even par after a 72 on the Nicklaus course.

Another former Baylor School star and Ringgold native, Luke List, is currently tied for 108th through the first two rounds.

Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Emma de Groot is tied for 107th two rounds into the LPGA Qualifying Tournament in Florida.
