Unemployment drops in Georgia; rises in Dalton

Posted: Updated:

DALTON, WHITFIELD COUNTY (WRCB)-- For those struggling to make ends meet, the holidays can be a hard time.

In northwest Georgia, unemployment is still high. But overall, the state's rate did drop some in October.

The labor department reports unemployment fell to 10.3 percent last month.

In Channel 3's Georgia viewing area the rates range from 7.3 percent in Dade and Catoosa counties, to 12.9 percent in Murray County.

Dalton's rate increased to 12.7 percent in October, also up from 11.9 percent one year ago.

Department of labor officials say the rate increased due to nearly 500 jobs leaving the area in the service and manufacturing industries.
