Report: Volkswagen could build SUV in Chattanooga

Posted: Updated:

(WRCB) - Volkswagen could soon build a vehicle at its Chattanooga Plant, according to reports from Germany.

The Financial Times Deutschland reports the automaker could introduce a new SUV for the American market.

According to the report, the new SUV could have three rows of seats, which is more than the Tiguan and would be cheaper than the Touareg. The new American SUV could be available as early as the 2015 model year.

Volkswagen of America CEO, Jonathan Browning, wouldn't confirm plans for a new model to be built Chattanooga, but said that such a model would fit well with the US market and the VW brand.

The news of an expansion comes just 24 hours after Motor Trend named the Chattanooga-made Passat 2012 Car of the Year.
